Welcome to Sublime Squirrel!
I'm Chelsea the Squirrel Charmer, and I love squirrels. :)
Why Squirrels?
I feel like squirrels are misunderstood animals -- many people have relationships with dogs or cats, but few have taken the time to get to know a squirrel, and that's a real shame! They are beautiful creatures, with intelligence and unique personalities. For instance, Margot -- a mama squirrel I met at UC Berkeley -- is completely fearless, and absolutely charming. When I first met her, she immediately ran up to me and climbed up my leg as if I was a tree! On the other hand, Summer, a squirrel who visits my office daily, is sweet and sensitive. She waits patiently for the other squirrels who visit me to leave before coming by to spend some quality time -- just me and her.
Who is Chelsea?
As an artist and an animal lover, I feel profoundly fortunate to have ended up in a part of the world where I can create art around animals that makes a difference in the world. Having worked as a professional wedding photographer, I developed the skills that I now use to help tell the story of the animals in my life, and over time I have learned how powerful that can be. My volunteer work at our local animal shelter resulted in a cat who had been at the shelter for months finally getting adopted, and my squirrel videos have brought joy to thousands. Here are some of my favorite messages from fans around the world:
"My baby stopped crying and started laughing when I showed your video! Thank you!"
"Your photos and videos are visual vitamins!"
"I had a rough day but your video made me calm down. Thanks!"
Having got to know squirrels, and having come to understand their power to bring joy into the world, I have made it my mission to spread that happiness as far and as wide as I can.
Aside from squirrels, I love traveling and food. Although I now live in Berkeley, I grew up in Japan and lived in Sydney, Australia for 3 years too. Being a tiny Japanese woman gives me another connection to squirrels: I like to think that they also struggle with being tiny but mighty! :)
I hope you enjoy your visit to my site, and feel free to contact me -- I always love hearing from fellow squirrel lovers!
